Therapeutic Treatment

Low level laser therapy (LLLT), photo-bio modulation, and bio-stimulation are all different names for the same procedure. It utilizes a low-dose laser (sometimes called cold laser) for deep treatment of soft-tissue injuries and to accelerate healing.

How it works
Mitochondria are the powerhouse of the cells in our body. During LLLT, light is transmitted through the skin in a localized area at different wavelengths to penetrate surface layers and deeper. This increases the blood supply to that area and increases the mitochondrial efficiency, which decreases inflammation and optimizes immune response.

Benefits and Applications
LLLT relieves pain, promotes tissue repair, and reduces inflammation, among other things; so it has many uses, including (but not limited to) the following.

• We often use LLLT immediately following surgery in our office to stimulate rapid healing and decrease any potential post-op discomfort.
• We have also successfully treated cases of Bell’s Palsy, poor healing after chemotherapy and radiation therapy, and poor healing or pain after injury. Any pain typically diminishes within an hour of treatment, and healing proceeds significantly.
• This method of laser therapy has been used in medicine for years, especially physical therapy. It is being used in veterinary medicine, especially on horses, with great results.
• Now it is often being used on athletes before events to increase the efficiency of the cells, give them more stamina during the event and much less down time afterward, which makes them less prone to injury.

The potential applications of this type of laser therapy are incredible. Talk with Dr. Dalessandro if you think LLLT could be helpful for you!
